After Simon Whitfield and Paula Findlay, there's been a serious shortage of Canadians to sell in triathlon.

But, this just in.

A month before the World Triathlon Series Grand Final in Edmonton, and a year prior to the Pan-Am Games in Toronto, there's Kirsten Sweetland.

The Victoria, B.C. product won Canada's first medal of the 20th Commonwealth Games in the women's triathlon at Strathclyde Country Park Thursday, a silver which, after five years recovering from a remarkable string of injuries, was as good as gold to this girl.

With a bronze medal in the WTS race in Hamburg, Germany 11 days ago, following it up with a silver in a field featuring eight of the top 12 female triathletes in the world, this silver medal made an announcement beyond the Commonwealth and these Games.

Canada's got another one!
