The Toronto Raptors used their first round series against the Brooklyn Nets as a stage.

Not just to show off the plethora of young talent on their roster to the rest of NBA, but also to reintroduce one of the most passionate fan bases to those that may have forgotten south of the border.

The Raptors may have lost a heartbreaking Game 7 at home when Kyle Lowry saw his buzzer-beater swatted away by Paul Pierce, but the true image that will best represent the series was the thousands who gathered at Maple Leaf Square, and turned it into “Jurassic Park”.

So on behalf of rabid Raptors nation, we bring to you the top 10 fan bases in North American sports.

SEATTLE SOUNDERS

It’s a known fact that European soccer fans are passionate and go absolutely nuts at matches. Rioting, chanting, lighting flares in the stands and throwing debris on the field is almost a regular occurrence. The fans of Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders do a pretty good job of bringing that European atmosphere to the game. These passionate fans set the standard when it comes to support for American soccer teams.

WINNIPEG JETS

In 2011, the city of Winnipeg got its NHL team back after the Jets relocated to Phoenix in 1996. The fans of this team picked up right where they left off by selling out the season and putting Winnipeg back on the map as one of the league’s most electrifying atmospheres. Winnipeg’s commitment to the Jets is proof that the team should never have left this place to begin with.

NEW YORK YANKEES

The Yankees are baseball. The Bronx Bombers have helped create so much of Major League Baseball’s history that the MLB logo should just be the interlocked “N” and “Y". The franchise has 27 World Series titles, and there’s no point in chirping these fans because that is the only stat they will knock you out with, and you will be silenced immediately.

ALABAMA CRIMSON TIDE FOOTBALL

Alabama fans have got to be the most obnoxious out of all the fan bases on this list. No matter where this team goes, the fans do everything in their power to make you think you’re in Tuscaloosa. Your ears will ring as “Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer” is yelled at you repeatedly and the hangover you will get from cherry bomb shots are only a few side effects from the Crimson Tide rolling through your town.

DETROIT RED WINGS

Detroit is a sports town with four major league teams: Tigers, Lions, Pistons, and, of course, the Red Wings. The Red Wings are the most popular team in Detroit, however, and hold the key to the city’s heart. This team has the biggest fan base out of them all, as well as a highly respected and decorated coach, Mike Babcock. Not to mention some really great history involving an octopus and a sea of red in the stands. In 2011, the Red Wings celebrated their 25 millionth fan to enter the Joe Louis Arena.

ST. LOUIS CARDINALS

The St. Louis Cardinals baseball club has an all-star roster including Yadier Molina, Matt Carpenter, Adam Wainwright and Matt Holiday. This is one of the reasons why it’s nearly impossible to get a ticket to their games. The fans here also understand that no player is bigger than the team. This was put on display after the franchise’s second most famous player in history, Albert Pujols, left for Anaheim in 2012, very few tears were shed.

DALLAS COWBOYS

Known as “America’s Team”, Cowboys fans are everywhere and they are convinced that every player on the roster is the best player in the league at the position. The fans are eternal optimists and they will always be preparing for next season when Jerry Jones will put together an all-star roster and bring home the Lombardi trophy; that hasn’t happened in over 15 years.

OAKLAND RAIDERS

Raider Nation is the blue-collar version of the Dallas Cowboys. The fans in Oakland are in touch with reality and they know that their team has lacked success for the past few years. They don’t make excuses for their team and that is what makes Raider Nation some of the most loud and devoted fans in sports.

NEBRASKA CORNHUSKERS FOOTBALL

The Cornhuskers rule the roost in Nebraska. The scores of games are announced on flights to and from Omaha to passengers, and weddings are rescheduled around football games. These fans are the most respectable because if you are lucky enough to beat them at home, they will give you a standing ovation as you leave the field. If that is not sportsmanship, I don't know what is. Cornhuskers’ games have sold out every year since 1962.

GREEN BAY PACKERS

Lambeau Field is the Mecca of football in America. The fans are not there for the team, the team is there for the fans. Packers’ fans are known as the most loyal fans on the planet. The players appreciate it, and some Packers players live in Green Bay. The fans there don't consider the players as celebrities, but more like a part of their family; they consider Vince Lombardi their grandfather. The Green Bay Packers don’t have a soul owner, the people of Green Bay who have purchased shares in the team share ownership; making it truly a unique place to play.
