Ontario will dedicate a highway in memory of Sarah Burke, the champion Canadian freestyle skier who died before she could compete in the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Highway 93, a 24-kilometre stretch through Simcoe County, will be renamed Sarah Burke Memorial Highway, Premier Kathleen Wynne is announcing Wednesday.

Burke, who was born and raised in the area, dominated her field as a four-time Winter X Games champion, and successfully lobbied to include the women’s halfpipe event in the winter Olmpics beginning in 2014.

She died days after a training accident in Utah in January 2012.
