CALGARY -- Though he had a long list of athletic and career accomplishments, Tom Podivinsky will be remembered most as a family man.

Podivinsky, 48, a Calgary geophysicist and married father of two, died while skiing at Whitefish Mountain Resort in Montana Sunday afternoon.

He is the brother of Edi Podivinsky, who won a bronze medal in skiing at the 1994 Olympic Games in Lillehammer.

The Flathead County Sheriff's Office reports Tom was skiing with a friend on the backside of the resort about 12:30 p.m. before the pair became separated.

When he failed to meet his party as planned, the group reported him missing to the ski patrol about 1 p.m.

Ski patrollers found him in a tree well and were unable to revive him.
