Even though the changes were expected, all nine National Lacrosse League teams will be getting used to a bevy of new rules both on and off the turf in 2014.

In addition to a new luxury tax that will slap the wrists of over-spending NLL franchises and adjustments to free agency, two major changes will also have a big effect in regards to the on-the-floor product.

Included in the new seven-year collective bargaining agreement the league and players’ association inked back in October will be a new 18-game schedule — up from 16 games — as well as the active roster being reduced from 23 bodies to 20.

After eyeing up the opening weekend of the NLL slate, Calgary Roughnecks GM Mike Board didn’t see too much of a difference in strategy across the league.
