Former U.S. distance runner Suzy Favor Hamilton fell in embarrassing fashion during her final race at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

More than a decade later, Hamilton’s collapse Down Under now serves as a metaphor for an Olympian who confirmed Thursday that her life has spun out of control.

According to thesmokinggun.com, an organization committed to obscure and under-reported scandalous stories, Hamilton, a three-time Olympian, has been working as a Las Vegas call girl for close to a year.

“I realize I have made highly irrational choices and I take full responsibility for them,” Hamilton said. “I am not a victim here and knew what I was doing.”

She took to her personal Twitter account to own up to the reports, which she originally denied when approached by a reporter in Vegas earlier this month.

“I was drawn to escorting in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and my life,” Hamilton wrote. “It provided an escape from a life that I was struggling in. It was a double life.

“As crazy as I know it seems, I never thought I would be exposed, therefore never hurting anybody.”

According to the website, Hamilton would often confirm her identity to clients before doubling as a $600-an-hour prostitute on the strip under the alias Kelly Lundy.

In an interview with NBC last summer Hamilton confirmed she was seeking help through the support of her husband, who provided “hope” as she battled depression.

But it seems the demons never left the 44-year-old, who was the top female distance runner in the U.S. for five straight years in the early 2000s.

“I have been seeking the help of a psychologist for the past few weeks and will continue to do so after I have put things together,” Hamilton said.

“I cannot emphasize enough how sorry I am to anyone I have hurt as a result of my actions and greatly appreciate the support from family and those closest to me. I fully intend to make amends and get back to being a good mother, wife, daughter, and friend.”
