Even though Canadian ski-cross racers failed to hit the podium for the first time in over a year, it’s not a sign of things to come.

With only five Canucks making it through Friday’s qualifying and into Saturday’s World Cup heats at Nakiska Ski Resort, the home side was behind the eight-ball from the git-go.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t qualify some of our top guys — Dave Duncan, Tristan Tafel, Marielle Thompson failed to qualify,” said Canadian ski-cross athletic director Dave Ellis. “It’s a matter of getting your lottery tickets in there because the more athletes in the top 32 (men) or the top 16 (women), the more chances at the podium."

Are you surprised Don Cherry backed Daniel Alfredsson's comments?
