Cassidy wheels to Chicago Marathon win
Ottawa’s Josh Cassidy won the wheelchair division of the Chicago Marathon Sunday.
The 27-year-old finished in one hour, 32 minutes, 58 seconds — 85 seconds ahead of runner-up Adam Bleakney. “Honour to win in this beautiful city,” Cassidy tweeted following his victory. “Was a cold one and a tough one.” It was the second major U.S. victory this year for Cassidy, who set a world record at the Boston Marathon in the spring. However, he had a disappointing Paralympics in London, failing to reach the podium. His top finish was a fifth in the 800 metres. “The Games were tough for me,” Cassidy said at the Chicago post-race press conference. “I’ve just been trying to keep busy (since then) and moving forward.” — Sun staff
