Nesbitt strikes gold

Canadian Christine Nesbitt continued her hot season on ice, winning the 1,500 metres Friday at the world single-distance speed skating championships in Heerenveen, the Netherlands. Nesbitt had a time of one minute 56.07 seconds. Teammate Cindy Klassen was fourth. In the men's 1,000 metres, Canadians Denny Morrison and Jamie Gregg were fourth and seventh respectively. Nesbitt won the overall 1,500-metre World Cup title this season, with three golds and two silvers. This was her first 1,500-metre win at the single-distance championships. Dutch skaters Ireen Wust at 1:56.40 and Linda de Vries at 1:57.08 also made the podium.
