Maltais captures snowboardcross title

Canadian Dominique Maltais won her second consecutive Crystal Globe Friday, edging out teammate Maelle Ricker and Bulgarian Alexandra Jekova for the overall World Cup snowboardcross title.

Maltais, of Petite-Riviere-St-Francois, Que., finished fourth in the World Cup season finale in Valmalenco, Italy, to take the Globe, the third of her career. Ricker finished fifth.

"I'm really happy that the season is over and to come back home with the Crystal Globe," Maltais said. "I won my last two races and I really wanted to give it all for the grand finale.I'm happy to be in one piece and it's a good reward to have the globe with me."

Jacqueline Hernandez of the U.S. won the final race while Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France and Zoe Gillins of Britain rounded out the podium.

Kevin Hill of Vernon, B.C., was the top Canadian in the men's race, finishing 26th.
