Rhae Christie-Shaw of Amhertsburg, Ont., rode to a silver medal in the women's individual time trial road race at the Pan American cycling championships Friday.

Shaw finished the 20-kilometre course in 27 minutes, 47.38 seconds, nearly a full minute behind winner Amber Neben of the U.S. Clemencia Dal Silva of Brazil grabbed the bronze in 27:57.00.

"It was really windy out on the course, a very difficult ride and I gave it my all," Shaw said. "For my first time trial of the year, it's a good indicator that training is going well and we learned a lot today to continue to improve."

Denise Ramsden of Yellowknife, N.W.T., finished sixth.
