Gregg golden for the first time

Speed-skating veteran Jamie Gregg of Edmonton won the first Wold Cup gold medal of his career Friday.

Gregg, 27, finished first in the men's 500-metres at the World Cup Final in Berlin, crossing the line in 35.06 seconds. Pekka Koskela of Finland was second in 35.07 seconds and Tae-Bum Mo of South Korea was third in 35.17.

Christine Nesbitt of London, Ont., was Canada's top female skater, finishing fourth in the women's 500m. She was less than half a second off the winning time of Jing Yu of China. and .02 seconds behind bronze medalist Jenny Wolf of Germany. Sang-Hwa Lee of South Korea finished second.

In the women's 3,000m, Winnipeggers Brittany Schussler and Cindy Klassen were 11th and 17th, respectively.

Denny Morrison of Fort St. John, B.C., was ninth in the men's 1,500m.
