Ransom scores silver

Julia Ransom of Kelowna, B.C., took the silver medal in the youth pursuit competition at the Biathlon World Championships in Kontiolahti, Finland, Sunday.

Starting fifth in the final, Ransom finished the 7.5 kilometre course in 27 minutes, 24.9 seconds, just behind winner Grete Gaim of Estonia. Gaim finished in 27:18.1.

"It feels pretty good. I am really excited," Ransom said. "It was a goal of mine to get on the podium at World Championships, but I definitely did not expect this today."

Calgary's Stuart Harden finished sixth in the men's 10-km youth division, clocking-in at 32:09.7, while Calgary's Kurtis Wenzel finished seventh at 36:03.0 in the junior men's 12.5-km division.
