Former Olympic diver Sylvie Bernier has been named Canada's assistant chef de mission for the 2012 Games in London.
Bernier replaces Sylvie Frechette, who asked to step down.
"I will bring my Beijing and (Turin) experience and provide optimum support for our coaches and our athletes competing in London," Bernier said Thursday.
Bernier became the first female athlete from Quebec to win an Olympic gold medal, finishing first in three-metre springboard diving in 1984 at Los Angeles. She was chef de mission for the 2008 Beijing Games and assistant at the 2006 Winter Games in Turin.
Another former gold medal winner, swimmer Mark Tewksbury, is Canada's chef de mission.
The COC didn't offer details on why Frechette stepped down.
