Jessica Zelinka wrapped up her competitive track and field season with a fourth-place finish in the heptathlon at DecaStar, an IAAF combined events meet this weekend in Talence, France.
The London, Ont., native, who turned 30 this month, scored 6,296 points. Reigning world champion Tatyana Chernova of Russia won the seven-event competition with 6,679 points, followed by Natalyia Dobrynska of Ukraine with 6,538 and Poland's Karolina Timinska with 6,301.
Zelinka was fourth after Saturday's four events, including an event-leading time of 13.07 seconds in the first event, the 100-metre hurdles.
She followed that up with a high jump of 1.70m (855 points), a shot put of 14.02m (795) and a time of 23.92 seconds in the 200 metres. Zelinka began Sunday with a long jump of 6.04m (862 points), then a javelin throw of 43.57m (736) before finishing the competition with a time of 2:11.28 in the 800m.
