Thor Hushovd will wear the coveted yellow jersey after his Garmin-Cervelo team won Stage 2 of the Tour de France, a 23-kilometer team time trial around Les Essarts.

Hushovd was the front-runner for Garmin-Cervelo, which finished the stage in 24 minutes, 48 seconds. Team BMC was four seconds behind, while Team Sky wound up in third with the same time.

Hushovd's teammate, David Millar, is second in the overall standings with a time of five hours, six minutes and 25 seconds -- the same time as Hushovd. Cadel Evans of Team BMC is in third, only one second behind.

"The team's goal was to win this team time trial and also get me in yellow and we've made it. So from the team's perspective this Tour de France is already a success," said Hushovd, who has previously worn the yellow jersey on two occasions. "The teamwork that we did is what made the difference today. Nobody was thinking about anything other than the whole team. We were riding as one unit and it was a satisfying day."

Philippe Gilbert, the winner of Saturday's opening stage, dropped to 30th overall after his Omega Pharma-Lotto team came in 10th on Sunday. He sits 33 seconds off the leader.

Two-time defending champion Alberto Contador of Spain, who finished 82nd in Stage 1 after getting caught behind a late crash, is currently 75th, one minute, 42 seconds behind Hushovd. The Spaniard's team, Saxo Bank Sungard, finished eighth on Sunday.

Contenders Frank and Andy Schleck's Leopard-Trek squad was just four seconds behind Garmin-Cervelo. The brothers are tied for fourth overall, also four seconds off Hushovd's pace.

Monday's Stage 3 is a 198-kilometer trek from Olonne-sur-Mer to Redon.
