Olympic marathon champion Samuel Wanjiru died early Monday morning after falling from a balcony. He was 24 years old.

According to the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, Wanjiru fell from the top floor of his home in central Kenya. Police, the television station's website reported, said the runner leapt to his death after a quarrel with his wife.

Wanjiru won the marathon at the 2008 Beijing Games. He also won marathon titles in Chicago in 2009 and 2010, as well as London in 2009.
