Vanier Cup to head west
B.C. Place to host 2011 game
By BOB MACKIN, QMI Agency

VANCOUVER - The Grey Cup will not be the first sporting event in Vancouver's new B.C. Place Stadium.

TSN reported that the Vanier Cup -- the Canadian university football championship -- will be played under B.C. Place's new retractable roof on Nov. 26, 2011, a day before the Canadian Football League's 99th final. The official announcement is expected Monday.

The Vanier Cup was traditionally played in Toronto until Hamilton hosted the game in 2004. The 2006 final in Saskatoon was the only time Vanier Cup was held west of Ontario.

Calgary meets Laval in the 46th Vanier Cup on Saturday at Quebec City.

B.C. Place is undergoing a $563-million renovation and is supposed to reopen in fall 2011.
