Silver puts Klassen back on podium
By QMI Agency

Winnipeg’s Cindy Klassen got back on the podium on the world stage for the first time since December of 2007 on Saturday.

Klassen, who has been working to find her form since enduring double knee surgery, brought home a silver medal in the women’s 3000m race at the Heerenveen Long Track World Cup event being held in The Netherlands with a time of 4:07.19, which was just behind Germany’s Stephanie Beckert (4:04.38). Ottawa’s Kristina Groves was third.

“Training is going a lot better, and I feel like I’m getting stronger. I like Xiuli’s training program and it all seems to be coming together. I’m taking it one race at a time, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to get back on the podium,” Klassen said in a press release.

“It’s really good to see Cindy skating well again, and it’s early so there is still time for improvement,” Canadian head coach Xiuli Wang added in the press release.

Fellow Winnipegger Brittany Schussler was sixth in the women’s 3000m.
