Canada is sending 27 swimmers to the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games.

The team was announced Monday in Irvine, Calif., after the Pan Pacific Championships where Ryan Cochrane of Victoria won gold in 1,500 metre freestyle.

Cochrane, 21, will be seeking Commonwealth gold in Delhi after winning bronze in his specialty at the Beijing 2008. Coach Randy Bennett was named head of the eight-coach staff for Delhi.

Brent Hayden of Mission, B.C., won silver in 100 metre freestyle at the Pan Pacifics and was also named Monday. He shared gold in the event at the 2007 world championships with Filippo Magnini of Italy.

Toronto-born, Edmonton-raised Annamay Pierse heads the women's side of the team. She holds the women's world record in 200 metre breaststroke.

Canada is planning an eight-day training camp in Singapore before arriving in Delhi Sept. 30. Competition stars Oct. 4.
