The Calgary Roughnecks will not play the defending National Lacrosse League champion Rochester Knighthawks this season.
However, that shouldn't come as a surprise. The Riggers haven't played the K-Hawks since their inaugural season back in 2001-02.
The two clubs, to the disappointment of local fans, have met only once.
Calgary opens the season Jan. 4 on the road against the Arizona Sting before playing the upstart San Jose Stealth in Silicon Valley Jan. 11.
The Riggers play their first home game at the Saddledome the following night when they host the Stealth in the second game of the back-to-back series.
Among the highlights of the Roughnecks 2008 schedule, released yesterday, is three Battle of Alberta tilts against the Edmonton Rush.
Calgary hosts Edmonton Jan. 26 and plays up the QEII Jan. 19 and April 4.
The Roughnecks also play divisional rivals Arizona and San Jose three times during the season.
Surprisingly, the Riggers play the Colorado Mammoth only twice (they normally play three times) and meet the Toronto Rock just once (normally a home-and-home series every season).
Calgary hosts the boys from Hogtown to close out the regular campaign April 19.
The Roughnecks also host the Buffalo Bandits and Portland Lumberjax this season and play the Chicago Shamrox for the first time, travelling to the Windy City March 1.
