If Justin Hogue could just stay healthy, he might be a force to be reckoned with on the bull-riding scene.

The Eriksdale, Man., bullrider looks to be healed up now and he's starting to put some cash into his back pocket.

He put together a pair of spectacular bull rides last night to win the 8th Annual Ranchman's Renegades Bullbustin'.

He racked up 172 points on two head to finally get that elusive cheque.

"I'm just the low man on the totem pole, trying to work my way back up," Hogue said of his years on the injury list.

"I broke my neck a few years back at a PBR event and that put me out for a while.

"It took me a while to come back and then I had shoulder surgery. It's the small, little things that keep you down.

"But it's comin' together now."

Hogue, 24, had an 85 on Schellenberg's Hoover in the short round and followed that up with an 87 aboard Schellenberg's Archie in the championship round to win it all.

His 172 eclipsed Max Fortmuller (DeWinton) and Zane Lambert (Westbourne, Man.), who split the lead on Night 1 at 170.5 on two head.

"That's my first big win" he said of the approximately $7,500 winner's cheque.

"I split first with Vince Northrop last weekend at Paradise Valley.

"I'm coming together now.

"This is awesome. It's a great charity event and this is my third year.

"I just miss out (on the money) every year but I finally got 'er put together."

Hogue said last night's win, which came at the expense of a great lineup of bullriders, would do wonders for the confidence going down the road.

"I know lots of the guys," he said.

"I travel a lot with them and their good friends.

"On any given day, anyone can jump out and win.

"But, yeah, it sure helps a guy. It gets a guy pumped."

Hogue said he'll take his winnings back to the farm and hit the trail again next weekend.

BEHIND THE CHUTES

Cole Collins (Fort St. John, B.C.) won last year's event with a 171.5 on two. He bucked off his re-ride bull last night.
