Winnipeg was such a blast the first time, three-year-old filly Des Moines has decided to make a return trip.

The Iowa-bred horse won the Chantilly Stakes back on June 10 by whopping eight lengths. Her trainer at Assiniboia Downs, Jared Brown, said this week her owner plans to have her race here again in the Assinboia Oakes Stakes during Manitoba Derby Weekend on Aug. 6.

"She won last weekend in Iowa by a lot again and she's going to Alberta for her next race before coming here," Brown said.

DOUBLE STAKES: This Sunday, Assiniboia Downs will feature two stakes races on Canada Day, the North Dakota Derby for North Dakota-bred horses and the Canada Day Stakes for three-year-olds and older.

In the Canada Day Stakes, trainer Emile Corbel's Doctor Jane will be looking for her second stakes win of the season. With jockey Rohan Singh manning the controls, Doctor Jane won the La Verendrye Stakes earlier this month. Singh will try to do the same this weekend.

Alan Cuthbertson will ride Beshairt, who is coming off a second place finish to Doctor Jane in the La Verendrye.

GAMES, GAMES, GAMES: The promotions staff at Assinboia Downs is bringing a couple of famous game shows to the track to entertain the fans between the races on Sunday and Monday.

Through entering the free parlay challenge by the third race of the day, fans will be selected at random to play the game Plinko from the Price is Right on Sunday and Deal or No Deal on Monday.

There is also poker on today and tomorrow and a free social following the racing tonight.
