Weekend sked is full

The first busy weekend of the 2007 thoroughbred racing season starts tonight at Northlands Park.

It all starts with a fairly-routine card and follows with three days of afternoon competition - including the annual Canada Day card on Monday.

Racing secretary Fred Hilts has provided a pair of competitive fields for two big-money events.

First comes the 24th running of the Wild Rose for fillies and mares who will covering 6- 1/2 furlongs with $75,000 up for grabs.

On the rail is She's Italian (pictured right), with veteran Jake Barton in the silks, top-weighted at 123 pounds. Also in the hunt are Braetta, Pretty Beaucat, Tartan Star, Sassy Sarah, She's Twenty Below, Montero and Dixietwostepper.

The $50,000 Western Canada is Sunday's feature.
