Pugilism enthusiasts in Winnipeg may have never had it this good.

King John Boxing will hold one of its biggest and most diverse events on April 15 at the Convention Centre.

The Colosseum of Champions card will feature a combination of boxing, Muay Thai (kickboxing) and MMA ultimate fighting.

"It's going to be one heck of a night," said King John promoter John Vernaus.

"I've done it once before, and it opened up all the mixed martial arts in Canada."

The last time Vernaus held a card like this was in 2000 at the Fort Garry Place ballroom.

"Until then, it had never been done in North America," he said.

"We've been sticking to the boxing since then because we didn't want to go in too many directions, but we wanted to give this another try."

The card will feature eight Muay Thai bouts, four boxing matches and three ultimate fighting matchups.

The Muay Thai headliner will be Guiseppe (The Godfather) DeNatale of Winnipeg, who will make a bid for the IKF Pro MTR World Heavyweight Kickboxing Championship against Scotland's six-time world champ Duncan Airlie James.

On the boxing side, Larry (Razor) Sharpe of Pine Falls, the current Canadian middleweight champion, will fight for a North American title against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

In ultimate competition, it will be Joe Doerksen making his return to Winnipeg for an MMA matchup.

Among those on the undercard are Junior (The Real Deal) Moar, Marcus (Rap M Up) Jones, Cory (White Shadow) Houston, Augustino (The Bull) DeNatale, Dave Zuniga, Kevin Manderson, Mark (The Black Wolf) Durant, Jon Henderson, Chris Fontaine, Rich Garcia and Jeff Betts.

Seating information is available online at www.kingjohnboxing.com. VIP tickets are available at Vernaus Auto Body (982-4540) and general admission tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
