The host team for the Canadian men's fastball championships in St. Thomas next takes to the field Thursday at the Casino Rama tournament in Orillia, but three members will be in action Tuesday at the St. Thomas and District Fastball League all-star game in Glencoe at 7:30 p.m.

Outfielder Chris Payne, shortstop Tex Lessard and second baseman Troy Rick, members of the Union Storm but who will play for the St. Thomas Evergreen Centennials at the nationals, have been selected for the annual all-star game against the defending league champion Glencoe .

Bill Horne, general manager and coach of the host Evergreen Centennials for the national championship Aug. 28-Sept. 4, said Casino Rama will be his team's fourth tournament, having placed second in a Woodstock Legends tournament, second at Midland, Mich., and first in Jarvis.

Horne expects the entire team to be together for doubleheaders July 19-20 in Waterloo against Team Canada. Not all Evergreen Centennial players have played with St. Thomas because they have played with their own teams.

The host team still has to play in the Ontario eliminations July 29-30 in Waterloo that will determine three other Ontario teams that will go to the Canadians.

Besides the three Union Storm/Evergreen Centennial players, on the local league's all-star list are pitchers Dan Beecroft (Union Storm), Todd Winkworth (Aylmer Cardinals) and Doug Charlton (Alvinston Indians); catchers Scott Smith (Alvinston) and Mark McCallum (Aylmer); first basemen Jason Dawdy (Shedden Mission), Jason Hope (Alvinston); second baseman Gregg Haskell (Blenheim Home Run Restaurant); shortstop Mike Unwin (Shedden); third basemen Geoff Gunson (Highgate Rock) and Scott Ryckman (Morpeth Magic); outfielders Jeff Wilcox (Shedden), Jamie Wolf (Morpeth), Brad Van Gorp (Aylmer), Darryl Smith (Highgate), Jeff Parney (Morpeth); designated hitters Gary Cooke (Shedden) and Mike Black (Alvinston).

The coaching crew is from the Alvinston Indians -- Paul McCart, Jeff Huston, Jim McNally and Joe Triest.
