Wang wins again in speedskating

HARBIN, China (AP) -- Wang Manli of China won her third 500-meter speedskating race in eight days, and Beorn Nijenhuis of the Netherlands scored his first World Cup victory of the season to extend his lead in the 1,000-meter standings.

Wang was timed in 38.73 seconds to beat Belarus' Anzhelika Kotyuga by 0.12 seconds. Japan's Sayurai Osuga was third in 38.87.

Wang, who won twice last weekend in Nagano, Japan, increased her season point total to 300, 90 more than Osuga. Wang also finished fifth in the 1,000, keeping her in second place in the standings at that distance with 190 points, 80 behind Italy's Chiara Simionato. Kotyuga won the race in 1 minute, 18.16 seconds, moving into third place with 172 points.

Nijenhuis beat countryman Simon Kuipers by more than half a second, improving his season point total to 230, 52 more than Dutchman Erben Wennemars.

Wennemars was fourth in 1:10.77 in a race in which 0.03 seconds separated the second- through fourth-place finishers.

Finland's Pkka Koskela won the men's 500 in 35.38 while Canada's Jeremy Wotherspoon was third, 0.22 seconds behind, to take over the season lead.

Japan's Hiroyasu Shimizu, who won both of last weekend's races, finished 13th. He was 0.8 seconds behind and slipped to second in the standings, 32 points behind Wotherspoon.
