Jeltkov wins gym silver

STUTTGART, Germany (CP) -- Alexander Jeltkov of Montreal won the silver medal on men's high bar Sunday at a World Cup gymnastics competition.

Brandon O'Neill of Edmonton finished fourth in the men's floor.

On men's high bar, Jeltkov scored a 9.737 for the second-best mark in the first final executing a

near-perfect routine. That put him second Germany's Fabian Hambuchen, who received a 9.787.

In the gold medal final between Jeltkov and Hambuchen, Jeltkov fell executing one his tough moves and received 7.825. Hambuchen also fell but the rest of his routine was very solid and he earned a gold with a 9.025.

It was Jeltkov's fifth career World Cup medal.

Hambuchen also won gold on men's floor with Razvan Selariu of Romania second. Both scored a 9.625 final but Hambuchen took top spot for the best average score over the competition. Wajdi Bouallegue of Tunisia was third at 9.587 and O'Neill was fourth at 9.575.

O'Neill, a Pan Am Games champion last year, is Canada's only entry in the World Cup final next month.
