HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (AP-CP) -- Winnipeg's Cindy Klassen captured a gold medal in the women's 1,500 metres Sunday while Dutchman Gianni Romme won the men's 10,000 for his third consecutive World Cup long-track speed skating victory.
Klassen won in one minute 56.60 seconds, followed a half-second later by Jennifer Rodriguez of the United States. Renate Groenewold of the Netherlands, who won the 5,000 on Saturday, finished third. Kristina Groves of Ottawa was fourth.
Klassen's win increased her lead in the overall standings by 30 points over Rodriguez.
Romme won in 13 minutes eight seconds, edging Oystein Groedum, who set a Norwegian record of 13.08.52. Carl Verheijen of the Netherlands was third.
Enrico Fabris, who finished fifth in the 10,000, improved the Italian record to 13.22.99. Cedric Michaud broke his own French record by 20 seconds in 13.37.92 to place 11th.
American Chad Hedrick won the 1,500 in 1:47.06 on Saturday.
