SOCHI, RUSSIA - One of the most popular athletes at these Games is not a gold medallist or world record holder, but Swedish skier Per Spett, who finished 11th in the moguls.

With his small frame (Spett comes in at a strapping 5-foot-6) and luxurious beard, Spett looks like a skiing gnome.

At the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on Monday night, his fan club was out in force cheering their little racer on.

Another interesting tidbit about Spett is that he works in the off-season at an iron-ore mine in Kiruna, way up in the north of Sweden.

Toronto Maple Leafs fans may remember Kiruna as the place of birth of Hall of Fame defenceman Borje Salming.
