SOCHI - She sat and watched the entire Olympics in 2006, when she was a Canadian team alternate.

She sat and watched while all of her other teammates skated in the early part of the 2010 Olympics, just waiting for her moment to finally come.

When it did, when she finally got that chance to put her blades on the ice at the Richmond oval, with the Olympic dream finally in her grasp, things didn't go well at all.

She finished 25th in the 1,000-metre race she had waited for all her life. Then finished 35th in the 1,500-metre race she had waited for all her life.

It was crushing, but long track speed skater Brittany Schussler says it's different this time.

"My first race was the 1,000-metre in Vancouver and even that was halfway into the Olympics," Schussler, 28, said Tuesday at a speed skating press conference in Sochi, where the 2014 Olympic Winter Games get underway Friday.
