SOCHI - Even here, at almost 2,000 feet above sea level, in the mountain hub of Krasnaya Polyana, you have to look way, way up to see any snow.
The good news is, it’s up there, along with the alpine, extreme and endurance facilities that will start hosting some of the world’s greatest athletes in less than a week from now when the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games get underway.
Krasnaya Polyana is home to the Russki Gorki Ski Jumping Center, the Laura Endurance Village, where the cross country skiing and biathlon events will be held, the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park and Rosa Khutor Alpine Center and the Sanki Sliding Centre, where luge, bobsleigh and skeleton events will be held.
This is where the majority of medals will be handed out in the first week of the Games and Canada will have many opportunities to find gold in these hills. Those Canadian athletes were starting to arrive in Sochi on the weekend and will begin their practices and test runs Sunday.
