WINNIPEG - What's sweeter than making Team Canada?

Probably nothing, but The Fairmont gave it a good shot Tuesday when they sent a congratulatory cake to Steven Stamkos.

"We just wanted to do something a little special for him, for being asked to be on the Canadian Olympic team," Colin Burdeniuk, director of rooms for the Winnipeg hotel. "It's very exciting."

In a tweet — favourited 2,000 by Wednesday afternoon — Stamkos called it a "classy move."

Sales manager Joel Barron came up with the idea and it "ignited from there," Burdeniuk says.

But it's not clear whether Stamkos ate the cake himself, considering that in his tweet he asked how Ryan Malone liked it.

Burdeniuk said the cake was simply dropped off for Stamkos, as they didn't want to intrude.

"It was more of a surprise," he said.

There was no such surprise for Martin St. Louis, who despite hammering the Jets Tuesday night is not a member of Team Canada.
