There have been 462 Canadians to have played at least one game in the NHL this season and every one of them would no doubt love the chance to wear a Team Canada sweater at the Winter Games next month in Sochi.

Only 25 will get that opportunity.

The names of those 25 men who will defend Canada’s Olympic hockey honour will be finalized Tuesday when Team Canada executive director Steve Yzerman announces his picks at 11 a.m. EST.

The roster will be finalized, but the debate over who should wear the maple leaf in Sochi next month will only rage on through the tournament.

There are probably 20 worthy candidates to fill the 14 forwards positions and you could argue none of them are ‘wrong,’ it’s a case of what 14 can best come together as a group. What collection of veterans’ experience and youthful energy create the best mix.

There are probably 12 worthy candidates for the eight positions on defence and five legitimate candidates for the three goaltending positions.
