The Canadian snowboarding team is on a mission.

There are medal contenders across the board, with Canadian snowboarders seen as frontrunners in everything from slopestyle to alpine to halfpipe, and the team’s not going to be satisfied if it doesn’t come home with a significant medal haul.

“The objective is very clear,” said Robert Joncas, director of high performance for Canada Snowboard. “We’re going there with a goal of five medals, and that’s in three different disciplines.”

The Canadian team sports two reigning Olympic gold-medallists — Maelle Ricker, in snowboard cross, and Jasey-Jay Anderson, in the parallel giant slalom — and a host of World Cup medallists.

Ricker is recovering from surgery after suffering a wrist injury recently, but Steven Hills, Canada Snowboard’s executive director, is hopeful she’ll still be able to compete in Sochi.
