Three of the women's favourites were welcomed to Upset City at the MTS Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Ontario's reigning Canadian champion Rachel Homan was surprised by Alberta's Valerie Sweeting 10-3; Renee Sonnenberg upended fellow Albertan Heather Nedohin 7-6; and Ontario's Sherry Middaugh clipped Saskatchewan's Stefanie Lawton 5-3 at the Canadian Curling Trials.

"It's going to be a long week and a long grind, and we learned a lot out there," Homan said stoically. "It might not look like it, but we did. It's too bad we had one too many picks, I think, but the other team played really well and we'll have to come out really strong the next game.

"There's never a good time for a loss, but we'll learn from our mistakes and learn the ice, and we've got to play better than that."
