Jennifer Jones cracked a six in the sixth end en route to thumping fellow Manitoban Chelsea Carey 10-2 in the opening draw of the Tim Hortons Roar of the Ring Canadian Curling Trials at the MTS Centre on Sunday afternoon.
Carey was forced to play without regular third, Kristy McDonald, who caught a touch of the flu Saturday night. McDonald, who could not make it for the Opening Ceremonies, was replaced by alternate Breanne Meakin.
Jones stole two in the third end when Carey's wide-open hit against three rolled out, taking a 3-0 lead. Carey got one back in the fourth but Jones blanked the fifth, then got set up for the six when Carey flashed a hit attempt.
