WINNIPEG -- Boy, that escalated quickly.

Ron Burgundy, the man whose voice could make a wolverine purr, graced the mere mortals of Winnipeg Sunday and lauded the city for its "beautiful hill country" during his brief but memorable visit that kicked off the Canadian Olympic curling trials at MTS Centre.

Burgundy, the legendary anchorman of the San Diego-based Channel 4 news team, was in Winnipeg to contribute to TSN's coverage of the Roar of the Rings and to promote Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, the sequel to the 2004 hit comedy.

"The people are wonderful. The limo ride from the hotel to the arena was first class all the way," Burgundy said. "They had roast pig -- an entire roasted pig -- right there in the limo."
