Dominique Maltais was lying in a heap, her lung collapsed, spitting blood, truly at the low point of her career.
That was almost four years ago on Cypress Mountain near Vancouver, where years of training along with hopes and dreams came crashing down in an instant. She had fallen in both of her qualifying runs and didn't make the final in an event she hoped would be golden.
"What happened in Vancouver was the worst moment of my life," Maltais said. "I was expecting to do really good and I had a really good season heading into the Vancouver Olympic Games. It didn't go the way I was expecting. I tried to do my best that day and it didn't work out well at the end. I was really disappointed and it was hard to go through that time."
