TORONTO - Some athletes are full of hot air. But you might say that Canadian figure skating great Patrick Chan is full of thin air.

Chan, the gold medal favourite in the men’s singles event at this winter’s Sochi Olympics, told a story on Tuesday about how he spoke to hockey superstar Sidney Crosby just prior to the men’s short program at the 2010 Vancouver Games and how that brief chat helped put things into perspective for him. Chan said he now compares skating for an Olympic gold medal to climbing a mountain.

“What I realize is, I have to narrow the focus down,” said Chan, the reigning three-time world men’s singles champion.
