IOC concerned about progress for Sochi
By BOB MACKIN, QMI AGENCY

Construction for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics is 40% complete, but the International Olympic Committee is concerned about operational issues.

The coordination commission wrapped three days of meetings Wednesday in the Russian resort.

Transportation, accommodation and tourism were pinpointed by the IOC checkup squad.

Finding and training workers and volunteers from across Russia and accommodating them along with visitors in Sochi “remains a top priority,” while the IOC warned that “the entire hospitality industry must be mobilized.”

Sochi caters predominantly to Russian tourists. The IOC’s official languages are French and English and there is little of either in Sochi, from wayfinding signage to restaurant menus.
