LONDON - Experience won the day for Brits on horseback Monday. Just as youth robbed the Canadians.

Experienced British riders won gold in team equestrian jumping after a dramatic show jump-off against a squad from the Netherlands.

Saudi Arabia took bronze in the team event.

The Canadian trio of Jill Henselwood of Oxford, Ont., Eric Lamaze of Schomberg, Ont. and Ian Millar of Perth, Ont. managed a 5th place, but there could still be a medal in Canada's future in the individual competition, set for Wednesday.

For the host-country team, it was a dream come true, as the capacity crowd roared with every hurdle Team Great Britain completed.

All three Canadians said their horses performed well, but compared to Beijing, they were riding young horses.

Millar, who at 65 is the dean of Olympic competitors, said he was willing to look ahead to another Olympics.
