Zelinka to hurdles semis

LONDON - Jessica Zelinka of London, Ont. finished second in a Monday qualifying heat for the 100 metre hurdles at Olympic Stadium.

The 30-year-old ran in 12.75 seconds. Alina Talay of Belarus was first in 12.71 seconds.

Zelinka will race in Tuesday’s semifinal. The final is also Tuesday night.

Phylicia George of Toronto was second in heat 6 in 12.83 seconds to qualify for the semifinal.

Zelinka was seventh in the heptathlon, a combination of seven running and throwing disciplines, last weekend. "I wasn't pleased about the results but today I am happy to qualify for the semis,” Zelinka said.

Nikkita Holder of East York, Ont. was scheduled to race in heat 5.
