10 Olympic venues and their uses now

: London will be the 30th time the world's athletes congregate to one spot to vie for the podium. Here's a look back at 10 venues from past games that still stand (in one form or another).

Name: Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground

Olympics: Beijing, 2008

Current status: Though the more recognizable Bird's Nest and Water Cube are still being used, other buildings, like the Chaoyang Park Beach Volleyball Ground have been left to their own devices.

Name: The Rose Bowl

Olympics: Los Angeles, 1932 and 1984

Broke ground: 1921

Current status: The home to the National Bowl Championship Series was used for track cycling in '32 and soccer in '84. Ten years later the Rose Bowl would also host the World Cup of soccer.

Name: Olympic Stadium

Olympics: Montreal, 1976

Broke ground: 1973

Built: 1976

Current status: The "Big O" has had many concerts and sports events take place under its roof. Up until 2004, it was home to the Major League's Expos and at present it only hosts playoff games for the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes.

Name: The Arch of Constantine

Olympics: Rome, 1960

Established: 315 AD

Current status: Once used as the finish line for the marathon, the Arch of Constantine is now fenced off but still made available to tourists visiting. It is in between Palatine Hill and the Colosseum.

Name: Panathinaikos Stadium

Olympics: Athens, 1896 and 2004

Established: 566 BC, renovated 1896

Current status: In 2004 Olympics, the stadium was used for archery and athletics and was the host venue at the first ever ceremony in 1896. Now it is used as a concert venue having the likes of R.E.M., Bob Dylan, Black Sabbath and Depeche Mode pass through.

Name: Olympia Schwimmhalle

Olympics: Munich, 1972

Current status: In 1972, the Olympic records were broken in all 29 of the swimming events. Further to those records, 20 world records were broken. Now, the Schwimmhalle is still seeing action.

Name: Centennial Olympic Park

Olympics: Atlanta, 1996

Current status: The location of the Atlanta bombing in 1996 has become a focal point for visitors to Atlanta. In 2004 the Children's Museum of Atlanta was built. Then in 2006, the World of Coca-Cola museum became the park's latest neighbour followed by the Georgia Aquarium in 2007.

Name: Nippon Budokan

Olympics: Tokyo, 1964

Built: 1964

Current status: When a musician is waxing nostalgic or looking to be the next "Big thing" in Japan, they play the Nippon Budokan, which was built to house the judo tournament during the 1964 Olympic Games.

Name: Bondi Beach

Olympics: Sydney, 2000

Established: 1851

Current status: During the Sydney Games a temporary 10,000-seat stadium, a smaller stadium, along with two warm-up courts, and three training courts were set up to host the tournament. Bondi Beach, a suburb of the booming Australian metropolis, is a a popular tourist spot and beach haven of suntanners.
