Canada's world record-holding women's speed skaters were defeated in stunning fashion Friday, losing in the team pursuit quarterfinal to the United States.
The American trio of Jennifer Rodriguez, Jilleanne Rodriguez and Nancy Swider-Peltz finished in a time of 3:02.19 — five-one-hundredths of a second ahead of the favoured Canadians, Kristina Groves, Christine Nesbitt and Brittany Schussler.
The Americans go on to the semifinals, which start at 12:30 p.m. PST Saturday.
