Canada's Marianne St-Gelais celebrated her birthday in style Wednesday, winning a silver medal in women's 500-metre speed skating.
St-Gelais, of Roberval, Que. turned 20 Wednesday. She finished first in the 500 metres at the 2009 world junior championship.
Jessica Gregg, 21, of Edmonton was the other Canadian in the four-skater final. She finished last.
Gregg is the daughter of former NHLer — and Olympian — Randy Gregg, who won five Stanley Cups with the Oilers.
Both Canadians fell, appearing to trip over each other, in a stunning start that was disqualified.
