Staals picked for Oly camp

By MIKE ZEISBERGER, SUN MEDIA

With apologies to the Sutters, the Staal family has become the First Family of Canadian hockey -- at least from a playing standpoint.

That was underscored this morning when all three NHL Staals -- forwards Eric (Carolina), Jordan (Pittsburgh) and defenceman Marc (New York Rangers) -- were on the list of 46 invitees for Canada's National Men's Team Olympic orientation camp, which will be held Aug. 24-27 in Calgary.

Also included was Avs veteran Joe Sakic, who captained Team Canada at the 2006 Games in Nagano.

The camp roster includes five goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 25 forwards. The list of players includes 40 players with senior international experience, either at the Olympics, IIHF World Championship or World Cup of Hockey/Canada Cup, while 36 of the 46 players played for either the National Junior Team or National Men's Under-18 Team.

Players not invited to the National Men's Team orientation camp can still be considered for both the 2010 Olympic Winter Games and 2010 IIHF World Championship.
