Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?
Fri, February 26, 2010

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

I could not believe my ears when I heard this story. The ICO and media needs to get a life. All of those old fuddy duddies in their suits think that they are all that (Especially that Jack Rogg guy , the president of the IOC)!! Also the American's are jelous!! Wasn't it them that made the rumor about Gretsky gambling in the last olympics.

Congratulations ladies!! Go Canada Go!!

Dont spoil this for the women's hockey team . They have every right to celebrate . They worked hard to acheive this and now it is time to let off some steam and celebrate . In fact keep the party going, you girls deserve it !!!

The Canadian Womens Hockey team just completed their third straight Gold in Olympic Hockey. They most definitely deserve to celebrate. I cannot see a spot in Canada that would not welcome them to celebrate. Ironically though, the ice they owned they are not allowed to on.

Now that is just NOT Canadian!

Celebrating with a beer after winning a hockey game $4.95.

Celebrating with a cigar after a winning a hockey playoff game $9.50.

Celebrating with both after winning an Olympic Gold metal in hockey....priceless

No they should not apologize for celebrating...that's sure not the first time athletes have had a drink and/or cigar after such a win. Why were these pictures published???

Here is one Canadian who is embarassed by an otherwise great victory. This could have been done anywhere but on the ice. It is disappointing to hear other comments saying that our standard should be compared to that of the Americans in previous olympics. Good for you! I'm glad to hear your standards are so low.

Beer? Champagne? Cigars? Goofy smiles? After an Olympic Gold win over the USA?? In Canada?

Who the hell would have thought?

Way to go Team Canada!! Take some Zamboni driving lessons before the next Olympics!

Let them have some fun. The article says it was AFTER fans left the building, so no one would have known about it if some idiot reporter hadn't brought it to everyone's attention. No apology necessary. We should be thanking them for a great game!!!
