Should women hockey players apologize for smoking and drinking on ice?

VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

Why is everything today blown out of proportion by the media. The girls should be proud and I'm proud of them. big deal about the beer on the ice.....glad I grew up in a time when everything didn't have to be so politically correct. Didn't see anything bad written about Jon Montgomery, when he chugged beer at Whistler.

Way to go Canada! You have worked hard all year and are a great role model for all girls!! I certainly don't think an apology was needed, give them some slack!!
Jodiene, 2010-02-26 17:39:00

there is noting to apologize, come on now...they got the gold, that should be enough to make you proud to be 'Canadian' its not like their falling drunk on the ice' its a little celebration for working very hard'

This is a useless tournement, basically a 1 week practice session before the inevitable end game with the USA. This should not be in the Olympics, annyone who says otherwise is full of it. They act like they battled for a week too get to this point, hardley!

Bring the hate, I'm just saying what most are thinking.

What a load of crap. The women play over 50 hockey games before the games even started. So get you facts straight. They don't play one week a year. Good for you girls you earned every minute to celebrate

Now the IOC is ragging on Canada? Why not, everyone else is.

Come one, give us a break already.

We were all young once! Cut them some slack. They won and they deserve a little space. If the worlds community doesn't like underage girls drinking then is't simple.. Only allow players that are legal!

At the conclusion of the World Series,Superbowl,Stanley,Cup and Grey Cup the media is right in the mens dressing room where the guys are half naked and the beer and champagne is deep enough to wade in and the cigar smoke can be cut with a knife and nobody says diddly squat about that. Are the media and IOC types just p'o'd because they didn't get into the girls dressing room for the after game shenanigans.

And I believe Marie-Philip Poulin is of legal drinking age in Quebec (her home province ).So to all you do-gooders and holier-than-thou critics, stuff your big brown noses where the sun don't shine and Hip Hip Hooray for the ladies.

I think these pompous over paid individuals should stuff it. The girls, whatever country that wins, have the right to release their happiness. Stay away big brother IOC.
