VANCOUVER -- Hockey Canada apologized Thursday for a boozy impromptu party the Olympic women's hockey team threw for itself on the Canada Hockey Place ice after winning the gold medal.

Canadian players, still wearing their uniforms and with gold medals draped around their necks, celebrated their victory by drinking champagne and beer at centre ice following a 2-0 win over the United States.

The International Olympic Committee said it will investigate the celebration, which included drinking by one of Canada's underage players.

In a statement released late Thursday, Hockey Canada apologized.

Do you think it was necessary for Hockey Canada to apologize for the players? Have your say in our forum.

The "celebration" is the biggest non-story of the Olympics. Way to win Gold, ladies!

I always thought that hockey players believe they are worth more than us mere mortals. Maybee they should learn the good manners like other sports demonstrate.

Let them have fun they worked hard and won the gold! It's a common thing now a days to see this type of celebration after sporting events.

APOLOGIZE?! For WHAT?! for being NORMAL?!?! PLEASE tell me WHAT under-aged teenager hasn't tried drinking before becoming a "legal" adult?? Should they have passed around milk and licorice? It's a CELEBRATION!

WHY does some negative have to be sucked out of something positive?!

OMG! get a GRIP people!!

I also HATE to play this card: but sadly it is true...if these were a bunch of GUYS, would such a BIG DEAL have been made from NOTHING?!

I DON'T THINK SO!

Absolutely not!!!

There was nobody there to see the celebration and they did no damage to the facility. They worked hard, they won on home ice. They deserve to celebrate!!!

As for underage drinking - give me a break!! How mony of us drank underage??

Drinking laws in this country are a complete farce and always have been.

No apology needed here. If Hockey Canada and IOC think this kind of behaviour is inappropriate, they have their heads in the sand. Three golds in a row? Give me a break! Have a beer on me, girls! Way to GO!
